EU grants for startups 2026–27

EU grants for startups come from more than a dozen programmes, from €75,000 equity-free grants for women-led deep tech to EIC Accelerator packages that mix a grant under €2.5 million with equity. Below you will find our founder guides, a programme map, the 2026–2027 deadline calendar and a five-question decision tree.

Fourteen EU funding routes, from free digital services to multi-million equity rounds. The chart rates how easy each one is to reach. The table below gives the amounts, who each programme suits and when to apply. The ratings are our editorial view. Amounts and rules come from the European Commission, the European Innovation Council, EUIPO and Eureka.

The full-proposal deadlines a startup can still plan for. Dates marked "draft" come from the EIC Work Programme 2027, which the Commission had not adopted by 15 October 2026, so they can still move. Always confirm the final date on the call page of the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.

Which EU grant fits your startup?

Most founders start with the biggest name, the EIC Accelerator, and lose months on a call they were never ready for. Answer these five questions in order instead. Each one points to the programme that matches where your startup is today.
Decision tree: five questions to find which EU grant fits your startup
    1. Is your company registered in the EU or a Horizon Europe associated country? No: start with Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs and your national startup schemes. Yes: go on.

    2. Is it a women-led deep tech startup? Yes: check Women TechEU (€75,000, equity-free). Either way, go on.

    3. Do you need to test a technology or protect your brand first? Yes: use the free services of a European Digital Innovation Hub and the SME Fund IP vouchers.

    4. Can you run a defined pilot within a few months? Yes: cascade funding open calls pay startups for exactly that, usually up to €60,000 each.

    5. Do you have a working prototype and a plan to scale? Yes: the EIC Accelerator. Doing joint R&D with a partner abroad? Eurostars.
